About
The Measuring Line
The Measuring Line is more than a church; it’s a gathering, a community, a place to come together and wrestle with the things of God. The word "church" comes from the Greek ekklesia, meaning a called-out assembly for deliberation, and that’s exactly what we strive to be—a thoughtful, engaged group seeking God’s truth. We believe God pours out his truth, goodness, and beauty to shape, fill, and satisfy our lives, and we’re here to explore that together, guided by Scripture and the Holy Spirit.
Our building is nestled in a vibrant hub near Wofford College, USC Spartanburg, Converse, the Spartanburg Medical Center, and several community colleges—a location that naturally connects us to people navigating pivotal stages of life. Here, we aim to engage especially with young adult Christians who are drawn to reflecting deeply on life, relationships, and their God-given purpose. Whether they come from Christian backgrounds and need support navigating the complexities of secular philosophies or are new to the faith and still piecing it all together, we’re here as a refuge and resource. Our hope is to help them grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and discover the richness of living a life in Christ.
Although we are technically a church, our atmosphere is far from formal. Think of our gatherings as conversations—more like a Bible study than a traditional service. Our teaching pastor leads an open exploration of Scripture, encouraging questions and insights from everyone. The goal isn’t just to share information but to nurture understanding. While we hold firmly to certain core beliefs, we also embrace the full scope of Christian thought, building a reasoned foundation for faith (see, for example, our OneSheet on Kinship Theology). Here, it’s not just about knowing what to believe—it’s about exploring why we believe it, because faith grows deeper when it’s rooted in understanding. We invite you to join us on this journey of discovery, whether in person or through our website resources, learning how a relationship with God transforms and shapes every part of life.
