Why We’re Here

The Measuring Line

The Measuring Line is a church. The word church comes from the Greek ekklesia, which is a gathering or called-out assembly involved in deliberation, and that’s exactly what we aim to be—a community that thoughtfully deliverates and discusses the things of God, as revealed in the Bible and guided by the Holy Spirit. We believe God desires to pour out his truth, goodness, and beauty that may then define, fill, and satisfy our lives.

Our building is strategically located near Wofford College, USC Spartanburg, Converse, the Spartanburg Medical Center, and several community colleges. In this setting, we seek to engage with these communities, particularly young adult Christians who often enjoy reflecting deeply on life, relationships, and pursuing their purpose with meaning. Whether they come from Christian backgrounds, and need help navigating the challenges of secular philosophical environments, or are new to the faith and still connecting the dots, we strive to be a refuge and resource—a place where they can gain new perspectives, find answers, and connect with a like-minded community focused on life and purpose.

Although we are technically a church, our atmosphere leans toward a more relaxed, conversational approach. Our gatherings resemble Bible studies, where our teaching pastor guides exploration through Scripture, inviting questions and comments from those present. Our goal is not just to deliver information but to foster true learning. While we uphold certain core beliefs (see our Beliefs page), we delve into all areas of Christian thought to build a reasoned foundation for what we conclude. In other words, simply knowing what to believe is not enough here—we seek to understand why we believe it. We invite you to join us on this fascinating journey through the Bible, discovering God and how our relationship with him flourishes and grows.
