Dr. Mark D. Kilgus, M.D., Ph.D., is the Executive Pastor for The Measuring Line and a board-certified psychiatrist in General and Child Psychiatry. Married to Becky Kilgus, an accomplished pianist and music educator, he is also a father of two. Since completing his training at the University of South Carolina in 1995, he has held leadership roles, including Chair of Psychiatry at Carilion Clinic and founding chair at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, where he helped establish training programs and served on the Admissions Committee and Dean’s Leadership Team.
A published researcher, Dr. Kilgus’s work focuses on the integration of psychiatry with primary care, adolescent substance abuse, and reactive attachment disorder. His widely used textbook, Essential Psychopathology and Its Treatment, supports graduate and medical training. Dr. Kilgus is a Distinguished Service Award recipient from the Southern Medical Association and holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum Development from Wayne State University.
